Job Description:

The responsibilities for the position include: Supervise the importing of product; ensure that the organization is in compliance with US Customs Rules and Regulations and any other regulations. The Supervisor serves as intermediary between importers, exporters, merchant shipping companies, airlines, trucking companies, and the broker to facilitate all import shipments. Monitors status of all import orders and any related issues. Oversees and communicates with customers, suppliers, and Sales Departments to coordinate payments and resolve any discrepancies as needed. Follows up on wire transfers and communicates shipping information. Manages and negotiates shipping contracts for imported goods with air, ocean, and trucking companies. Ensures that imported goods are filed under the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification code and duty rates are correct. Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained.

Experience and Skills:

  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

  • Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Active listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Critical Thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in Business Administration and/or 5 years related experience in an Imports/ Exports environment or a combination of experience and education in related field. 3 years of supervisory experience required and prior Inventory Control experience is a plus. Bilingual (English & Spanish).
