Job Description:


The Controller oversees the Accounting, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Taxes and Internal Control functions, and supervises a team of 6 people.

The successful candidate will have previously worked in a Finance Manager, Accounting Manager or Financial Controller capacity in a mid-to-large US headquartered organization. He/she must be prepared to be hands-on to support the General Accounting, Treasury and AP teams in a transactional environment. The incumbent must possess a strong accounting background. Being positive with a can-do attitude is essential for this role.


  • Leads General Accounting activities to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Prepares and consolidates financial statements under US GAAP, and prepares related notes. Responsible for month end accounting closing. Reconciles Financial Statements from US GAAP to IFRS.

  • Leads AP and Treasury to ensure cash is managed under a rigorous internal control environment. Prepares cash flows.

  • Manages internal controls and segregation of duties. Assists in the enhancement of the internal controls framework, procedures and processes. Assists in implementing fraud prevention programs. Manages the audit process.

  • Manages the firm’s external accounting and tax service providers.

  • Main liaison with the Panama Finance team.

  • Communicates financial results to senior management, including supporting schedules, on a regularly basis.

  • Leads, coaches and develops his/her team with an emphasis on people development and succession plans, and looks for efficiencies through people management and through system upgrades.

  • Manages/maintains the Automatic Accounting Instructions (AAIs) in JD Edwards and the Chart of Accounts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification is a plus. External public accounting experience is a plus. Either a CPA certification or experience in Public Accounting is required. Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in the Accounting/Finance field with at least 5 years of Managerial/Supervisory duties of 4 staff members or more. Fluent in English and Spanish.


  • Strong and practical knowledge of US GAAP accounting, including revenue recognition, monthly closing and balance sheet management. Basic knowledge of IFRS and reconciliation from IFRS to US GAAP is preferred.

  • Experience in balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Experience as the leader of an accounting department. Experience in key functions within finance, such as accounting, account payables, account receivables, billing and US GAAP reporting.

  • Basic knowledge of tax and regulatory compliance is required.

  • Experience in Distribution companies is a must. The incumbent must have familiarity with inventory control practices and costing.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Advanced knowledge of Excel (including use of pivot tables) is needed.

  • Experience/exposure with J.D. Edward is highly desirable. Experience with other ERP platforms, such as SAP, may complement lack of experience with JDE.

  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting is preferred but not critical.

    Computer Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office programs

  • Ability to create spreadsheets using Excel

  • J.D. Edwards software is a plus
